We're in the process of buying a new kitchen at the moment and the price of worktops is UNBELIEVBABLE! I've had some much, much better quotes from the internet (still expensive though!) but are those too good to be true? Could anyone recommend a company...PLEASE

How familiar are you with internet shopping, meaning, do you know what to look out for?
I've bought gazillions of things online, including building materials and rather fab furniture and would definitely recommend it. Planning to do the new kitchen entirely online, including granite worktops.

Moi again. Just must add that I even got my divorce done by an online company, something that a posh and quite pricey solicitor had dragged on for years. All was perfectly fine, absolutely legal - as one is remarried and cheap as chips (£200 something versus thousands). Getting my taxes done by an online co as we speak.
Online trading cuts out MASSIVE costs of staff, overhead etc. The prices reflect that.
HOWEVER, there are many scams out there so do check the 'small print'.

I do buy loads of internet shopping but not for building materials. I don't know how to check how good they are! This is the website here What should I be looking for?

Not sure if you are considering Granite (which I know is expensive but sooooo nice), but we got ours through a company called Diapol who were internet based and they were fantastic - it was a great way of making a cheap ikea kitchen look very expensive. We paid £2k for granite which local suppliers were talking of £4/5k. I too was worried that they were too good to be true - but I would thoroughly recomment them.

I have a looked at granite but the colour I love is only available in corian. I will have a quick look at diapol though, thanks you two

How much cheaper roughly is the corian on that site lordvetinari? We are looking vaugely at the moment but not enough to ring them up etc!

hambo · 31/10/2009 22:03

There is a product called Mia which is like Corian but a tad cheaper. You can see it in Hamebase and then order it online from a cheaper company. That is what I am doing...not got it yet though!

hambo · 31/10/2009 22:03

Homebase!

Maia not mia so OP can find it more easily - just looking at it - very nice

LordVetinarisApprentice · 31/10/2009 22:10

It's between £500 and £1800 cheaper than other quotes! Huge range as you can see I've emailed them to ask if I can see something they have fitted. I'm waiting for a response....

I bought wooden worktops online and would be happy to recommend the company we used.

ImSoNotTelling · 31/10/2009 22:12

Who did you use cece?

LordVetinarisApprentice · 31/10/2009 22:20

YY I am having some wood too, spill the beans!

Have looked at Maia but they don't have the right colour - the corian I like is blue pebble

This is the company I used. Good price and the product is good quality. Delivery was spot on and they delayed it by a week so I wouldn't have to store 7 metres of worktop for a week!

LordVetinarisApprentice · 31/10/2009 22:50

Thanks cece, have ordered a sample from them.

Now SOMEONE must have bought corian from t'internet.....
