We're getting new stairs and landing carpetting this week and I wondered how they deal with the banisters - do they finish the whole thing before the banister rails start, or do they cut around each one individually? Does the carpet just finish, or do they tuck it under itself for a neat edge?

I know it's a boring question, but I need to know whether or not to sand the floor round the bottom of the rails!

Does banister have two 'n's? It looks wrong!

Thanks!

Not sure - we have a runner up the stairs.

Hi CBM, well I appreciate you taking the time to respond, anyway!

We have just had someone come to measure for stair carpet, and were told that they would turn the edge of the carpet under and glue it for a neat edge. The carpet will stop short of the posts, so you would have to sand or paint between them.
