We have oak cabinets in the kitchen and it is very dark.
I want to paint them off white.

Anyone done this?
Tips?
Paint recommendations?

Yes, painted nasty orangy pine ones. Sand them lightly and use a good quality paint like F&B eggshell. I didn't bother with primer or undercoat and they still looked fine 8 years later.

i used one-coat gloss for mine.
depends on whether the dark oak is too dark for that though.
test it on one door, then if it shows through, use an undercoat on the others.

Yes, used Laura Ashley eggshell the first time and it was lovely.

The second time I've used Farrow and Ball eggshell - also lovely

I also didn't use primer or undercoat and not one chip. I did two coats.

Thanks for the advice.
Did it significantly lighten the kitchen?

When I moved to this house, it had orange pine panelling on the walls and orange pine cupboards.

The walls are now white and the cupboards a tasteful greenish-grey.

It is lovely and light now. Before it was like an ugly sauna

Laurie that sounds like my kitchen.
Have already painted over the orange pine clad ceiling.

What are your worktops made of?
