Sanivite kitchen unit smells bad, is it worth getting it checked out?

The sanivite unit in our basement kitchen smells bad. It was put in about 12 years ago and otherwise works fine.

One plumber said we needed a new one, that there was no way of fixing it. Another said he could remove it and clean it out, which would be quite pricey as it'd take a while.

I haven't called a special saniflo plumber as from past experience their call out rates are very high.

A new unit costs around £300 so am not sure what is the best thing to do.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice much appreciated...
