Thinking of moving to Hale, Cheshire

DH has the option to work in Manchester, which he is tempted by for various work reasons. We have a dd in year 6 and one in year 3 so I wondered if it might be a good idea to move in time for dd1 to start senior school. I know there are grammar schools, which I'd hope she'd get into, but I don't understand the system and how it would work with us not being in the area right now.

More importantly it feels like a big move for me, so I'm keen to know what it's like for families. DH has a few friends who live in Hale and we have been there and liked it, although we're open to options.

I just wondered if there are any MN'rs who live in Hale or have done who wouldn't mind letting me know what it's like there.

I don't live in Hale, live further out along the M56 in Cheshire. But its a lovely place and the schools are good there. We seriously considered moving there but in the end decided to stay round here where our friends are and all my sons services are in place already.

Hale comes under Trafford education system. Used to be 11+ selection but as of this year all 8 grammar schools do own entrance exams. Nearest to Hale is Altrincham grammar (s) separate boys and girls very good schools. Entrance exams have just taken place I think in last couple of weeks but may be worth contacting. Also quite a few good private schools around and the options of the Catholic grammar schools if that interests you. Trafford.gov.uk has a full online brochure on all the schools available, entrance etc.

Hale,Bowden Altrincham are the posher bits of Trafford!!

The grammar schools are so competitive I would say you need them in prep school to stand a chance and hale prep is full (I know I tried to get mine in this year).
It's a lovely area though.

My daughter got offered altrincham grammar (and we're not in that side of trafford) although we didnt take it in the end and my niece got a place the year after. Seems to be how well they did on the exam followed by distance
