Come and look at my gorgeous new bathroom!

I'm really proud of it as I did most of the work myself. A builder friend did the plumbing and a bit of carpentry but I did the wallpapering, painting, accessories etc.

Wow, I absolutely love love love that style... it is exactly how I would like my bathroom to be - fancy a job

Really beautiful and I love the colour.

Well done, you should be very very very proud.

Out of interest - where did you get the tongue adn groove cladding from? And who did you get to fit it?

hippipotamiHasLost63lbs · 01/09/2009 08:51

2sugars - if you click on 'Lyra...pictures' at teh bottom of her profile page you get a whole page of pictures of the bathroom

Oh it's gorgeous. Did you do the woodwork yourself? Is it difficult? This is the sort of thing I want to do in mine only my DH keeps talking about tiling the walls which makes me feel ill, I need to persuade him that the kind of look you have is best. We're planning on having a similar bath.

Any tips would be gratefully received.

EyeballsintheSky · 01/09/2009 08:59

I preferred the old one...

Flower3545 · 01/09/2009 09:06

Love the colour, what is it BTW. Well done!

A tiny word of caution though, watch your dc's like a hawk from now on.

In my wisdom(sigh) I once let a child help me strip wallpaper, every time I turned my back for weeks there he was beavering away pulling off the new wallpaper

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2009 09:50

Hippi, I got the cladding panels from B&Q. It comes in MDF sheets. My builder/carpenter fitted it. Behind the basin he built a false wall with the cladding and some timber to hide all the pipework. I painted the tongue and groove in Carnaby wood paint from Crown Fashion for Walls range.
Builder did a fabulous job but he hasn't seen the end result as we kind of fell out (sadly).

Beanieb, don't let you DH get his way with the tiles. Tongue and groove looks a million times better.

Hi Lyra: Loving your bathroom, the colour is really nice.

Loved to see there was a quiz, Edward Cullen or Bill Compton - wow how do you choose

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2009 09:58

Sandy, there's no contest. Edward wins, of course.

It's gorgeous. You did a really great job.

lovely colour, looks great
inspired ...

hippipotamiHasLost63lbs · 01/09/2009 10:09

Thanks Lyra - it looks great! We are hoping to do the T&G cladding in our bathroom as we already have a false-wall-to-hide-the-pipes thing going on courtesy of the previous owners. Great except for the weird cupboard doors they used as panels. I have lived with it for 12 years but have decided that at some point over the next year it will be banished!

Lizzylou · 01/09/2009 10:12

Lyra, that is fab, love love love it.

You should be really proud of yourself

I bet your boys loved the bashing off the tiles bit, I know mine would have.

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2009 10:21

Thanks all of you. I've been wanting to drag strangers in off the street to have a look at it.

It's so satisfying isn't it. We have a tiny bathroom of about 8'x8' which originally had a pink suite with sky blue walls, pink tiles and one dangly light bulb in the middle of the ceiling, with a peeling fake wood laminate floor.

We now have white Ideal Standard Space Saver curved bath (so we can reach window without falling in bath), built in worktop basin and loo, and fitted cupboards in birch - all Space Saver, which is fab for stupidly small bathrooms. Nice cream walls with some bright beach and blue sky pictures, halogen lights and an over mirror light, blue glass tiles in 3 colours and a cream stone floor with underfloor heating. Would have been easier to show with a pic, but don't know how!

Having spent 18 months rushing in and out as quickly as possible because it was so grim, I can now be found hiding in there on a regular basis! Everyone who comes to the house is given a guided tour, which doesn't take long!

Very nice indeed. Can I ask what the dimensions of the room are?

Frostyfingers - 8'x 8' isn't a "tiny" bathroom surely?

LyraSilvertongue · 01/09/2009 18:20

Sounds lovely Frostyfingers. I want to see a pic.
Not sure about dimensions of the room. Probably 10x8 plus a little bit as a corner is taken up with the boiler/airing cupboard, which used to house the hot water tank. We've kept the loo in a separate room next door (painted in the same colours) so I can have a bath in peace without small people banging on the door needing a poo.

LST: thanks for the price/stockist info. Well done: it looks fantastic and you've inspired me to crack on with mine.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/09/2009 16:31

Will you go for a similar style?

OP posts:
flowerpotwoman · 02/09/2009 22:23

I'd love to, but not sure if I've got room for a free-standing bath (although I'd love one). Think the tongue and groove would work in my bathroom though. Any tips on what to do/what not to do if you're DIYing?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/09/2009 00:34

We bought the MDF tongue and groove panels from B&Q and fixed them to the walls using Grip Fill adhesive. Then added beading round the top and skirting around the bottom. Two coats of primer then another two coats of wood paint on top. My builder friend did the carpentery bits for me and I did the painting.

Checked my bathroom measurements - 8'x6', I always laugh when on the property programmes someone strolls into what I consider a huge bathroom and says "it's a bit small". You can go into ours, turn round and go back out, and any more than one in there makes it crowded! My next bathroom, assuming we move again will definitely have T&G, I think it's fab. Lyra - I think you should be an online bathroom design consultant!
