How much does carpet cost

I'm looking for a ball park figure. Our new house, if we go for it, will need all carpets replaced.

So, what does a decent carpet cost, and what do the extras cost, such as underlay? Is there anything else I've missed out.

You'll need gripper too and fitters cost if it's not included when you order.

Of course - I guess we should also think of stain proofing.

We just got a quote for cheap and cheerful carpets in our lounge, hallway, and stairs, including the underlay and it came to £1000.

According to the carpet guy, this is cheap as we were using cheap carpets. If you want to do it "right" you'll use carpet that is more like £30 per meter (our quote is for about £15 per meter I think).
