Ok, so I've just searched the archives about moving house with children and come across a few threads about doing up a house. Holy Crap, we're just about to move into a house that will need a bit extension out the back, new heating, re-wiring and new windows. Now I'm a bit scared! I've had a loft conversion and an extension done on my previous house so I'm well aware of the lack of privacy/dust/cold etc but after reading a couple of those threads....YARGH!
Please come and talk to me about the positive sides

You can change anything you like about the house!

I love looking at things and saying - well, we could have a new corridor there, or we could have floor to ceiling cupboards here, or we could have an amazing innovative bath/library over there...

it's lovely to look around you and know that everything that you love about the house is thanks to you, and to bask in all the compliments you get when it's finished. and it's nice to bring a poor unloved old house back into better days. and like having kids, it's something you and dh (is there a Mr Bursar?) have created together and that is a good solid feeling.
yeah plus the builder flirting is definitely good.
oh and if you have small boys, having builders in the house doing exciting things with hammers is good for a lot of free entertainment. months after our builder finished, ds still goes mistyeyed talking about him and his concrete mixer.

Nouveau!! Lol! I can just imagine DS being like that There is a Mr Bursar, the best thing about the wonderful Mr Bursar is he's happy for me to fully indulge myself with the decorating. I check with him that he likes what I've picked (which 99% of the time he does), the only three things he has requested for this house are a belfast sink (bizarrely) , a power shower (definitely) and a big screen tv
