Victorian/Edwardian geometric tiles.....

We're looking for reproduction Victorian/Edwardian geometric tiles. Prefer for them to come already configured into a pattern, rather than asking the tiler to lay hundreds of separate squares and triangles.... Any recommendations?

What you want is Encaustic Tiles. Minton made them originally and some of the few companies left in the Potteries (Stoke on Trent) still make them.

I found this company but from Shropshire... I imagine you can buy them in most reputable tile shops but lots of Factory shops in Stoke sell them also (try Johnson's?).

Hmm. Those have to be laid individually. I bet there are reproduction full size ones somewhere but they probably don't look so nice...

My in laws had repro geometric tiles laid, they cost ££££££!! They do have to be laid individually and they needed a specialist tiler.

They do look nice, but a bit brand new looking, I personally would go for reclaimed if i was spending that amount of money.

many thanks. The builder said that he heard of them prelaid on a sort of single tile...as sort of very good replica I guess.

The builder just emailed me this website with SHEETED VICTORIAN MOSIAC TILES . Looks like a good cheat!

Here is my favourite one so far. Apparently they are pre-laid so that your tiler can't mess it up. Plus it should cost less to do it this way.

Trixy - I will call them tomorrow. But my builder was saying that it would be much m,uch cheaper to lay the cheat tiles as well as less reliant on the tiler's skill.

Come back and tell us how much. I have unfortunately just bought tiles for my hall as we ruled out encaustic tiles as too dear, but would be really interested to know.

Hmmm- I don't want to torture you if they are reasonably priced. Would you be able to return if you they were the bargain of the century? I am sure that you got nice ones anyway.

trixymalixy - the supplier is on holiday (!) but I have emailed him to ask him for prices for his prelaid Mosaic tiles. Will update you as soon as I hear.

I spoke top the supplier's accountant and I could only get a VERY ROUGH price as to what these sorts of tiles cost. He said that it is in the range of GBP 100 per square metre but you could probably get trade discopunt and it depends on which sort of tile. he wasn't sure but I forced him to get a very rough estimate.

I alo learned that each tile is made up of serveral small tilese with tape over them. SO the tiler is able to lay several tiles in one go and then the tape is lifted. Will update you.

I thought it would be in the region of £100/sqm. Our tiles were about 1/2 that so don't feel too put out!!

And I am sure that you got some very nice tiles.
