Dining table or kitchen counters nearest the window??

If you could choose which would you prefer:

  1. cooking/washing up etc with no view except the rest of the kitchen but a view (windows/door opening onto very small balcony/terrace overlooking gardens) from your dining table

or

  1. the other way around i.e. view from the kitchen counter/sink/stove and eat in the part of the kitchen that has no view?

I think view to eat is good but it's so hard to get away from the sink-in-front-of-the-window convention. I am having the same dilemma.

Instead of the window you could have some cool wall mounted plate and spice racks so everything you need for preparation is to hand.

But you spend a lot more time (on your own) at the counter/sink/stove. When you're at the table you have your lovely family to look at - who needs a view then?
