Huge landing window

We are moving into a 1930's house with a huge landing window halfway up the stairs. It would have had original stained glass but unfortunately the glass has been replaced with clear modern glass. We will eventually commission some new stained glass but in the meantime need some sort of window covering as you can see right in to the house next door. The window floods the hall with light and I want to retain this but need some privacy. Can't stand nets etc. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also...I have stripped the paint off the banisters and sanded them down. The spindles have been freshly painted and I need to know how to finish the exposed wood. It is Oak if that helps.

window film or you can get roller blinds with material which is white but lets the light in.
