What flooring would do for both a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom?

Title says it all, really.

Our en-suite bathroom is actually also the corridor into our bedroom, so I'd like the same flooring to run from one into the other.

But what kind of flooring would do well for both? I really haven't got a clue. The only thing I could think of is wood, but I'm dubious that the floorboards are up to it!

Karden or Amtico tiles ?

In the main bathroom, we got the floorboards repaired and sealed with this great white wash, and coated with something like pvc? I love it....

Could you get an estimate for the floorboards? Sometimes it's cheaper to get them repaired than a new floor...

Amtico is a good suggestion, great for bathrooms. You can get the ones that look just like wood flooring. My friend has it in kitchen and bathroom and I couldn't tell it wasn't wood.

Amtico is good. Also you can get some pretty good looking rubber tiles. Much nicer than it sounds

I'm interested in Amtico, but my husband thinks it would feel funny underfoot in some unspecified way.

I like the idea of sealing the floorboards - the problem is that our house is both 17th century and listed, and I think that if we get rid of the carpet, we won't have any sound insulation from downstairs. So we'd have to take them up and insulate. Replacing any dodgy floorboards would be trickier than it would otherwise be, as I'm not sure we could actually find anything that looks the same without spending a fortune. The bits of floorboard I have seen in the house are mostly pretty awful. I suppose I may have to bite the bullet and lift the carpet to check.

Rubber in the bedroom? Ooh-er.

LOL at your husband and his unspecified weirdness We have karndean in our bathroom, it's warm underfoot although it has scuffed a bit (didn't use the special cleaning pack that came with it though..tsk tsk)

tiling with underfloor heating and lots of rugs in the bathroom? given you are 17th c i am guessing flagstoney type?

We had gone into John Lewis to look at Amtico and Marmoleum, and there was a moment when he just stood there and said 'I don't know... won't it feel funny underfoot?' and I was ready to request an axe from the helpful JL man to run him through.

But yesterday I pulled up the carpet in a few places and it seems that the floorboards are in better condition than I expected, so I may well investigate further. There are some really dodgy bits (hello!? did it not occur to anyone that it might not be a good idea to damage the floorboards if you could avoid it!?) but it seems that enough is sound that it might be a possibility.

And we could use rugs to cover up dodgy bits in the right bits.

Sounds like you've found your solution! Me, I'd go for bamboo...I love it, its warm underfoot, sustainable, pretty, and water resistant. Its not wood, its a grass, but very like wood to look at - we have it in both our bathrooms and its still in great condition after five years of two small children splashing all over it nightly

I love bamboo - we had it in the old house and I know how practical and hard wearing it is, but I can't see it looking appropriate in a 17th century building. Otherwise I'd have every room decked out in it.

Sadly, DH is very very anti the wood floor idea. Apparently he "doesn't know what a wood floor would look like". (What? What? Will it look 'funny in an unspecified way', perhaps?) More justifiably, he does think that the whole bathroom floor would need replacing if we had exposed floorboards, and I think he's sadly right.

I think I'm going to have to buy a whole load of those horrible smarmy period house magazines and look at what floors they have.
