Neighbour got his half of flat roof done and now we have a leak

Hope someone can help me with this as I ahve no idea where I stand. Our neighbour mentioned tha thtey were getting their falt rood done as they had a leak. So they had the roofers in and now we have developed a leak. there is def no co-incidence in this and I am fuming. But am not sure what I can do about it. Roofers have come back and put a sheet over our roof for the moment. Where do I stand on gettign them to fix the problem they have created. Anyone got any ideas?

Must say though that it sounds very odd to redo half a roof - never heard of it, in fact. Can we assume that the roof needs replacing - or else your neighbour would simply have got the leak patched?

Well the roof is about 15 years old so does need redoing and we were planning to look at getting it done next year (finance premitting) as we had a roofer look at it and he said it would be grand for a year or two more easily. I thought that next door were just getting the leak fixed when they sadi they were getting a roofer in. Didnt realise they were getting the whole of their half of the roof done till after.

Would probably have been prudent and cheaper to have got both sides of the roof(ie all of the roof)replaced in one hit and negotiated a discount with roofer and split the cost 50/50 with neighbour.
As expensive as it is at any time, flat roofs have an upper limit life of 15 years tops! mine is 21 and has been bodged repaired twice now. I feel for you.

Is your leak near the join of old/new roof? If so, you might argue that the roofer needs to come back and repair a leak created by his work on neighbour's section....though it might be difficult to get him to return for a repair of that nature as presumably he's already been paid.

Or perhaps you could get the roofer to do the repair by 'promising' he'll be hired to replace the roof on your half in the next few months when you can afford it.

Yes probably would have been cheaper to get the whole roof done together if I had known they were lookig at getting all their roof done. I'll get dp to get the number of the rooofer and see what more he is going to do about our roof.

He did say he'd give us a good quote on the job when he was round next door but after this am not sure I'd want him to do it but I guess if dp can knock him down on price .

Will go give my mate a ring too as he's a roofer and might know of a way to bodge fix it.
