We're moving back to the UK in August after 3 years overseas. I'd like to have our bedroom and my 12yo DS's redecorated before we come back. I need some advice as to colours. I want to do our son's room white, and then add colour with bedlinen, blinds, etc. I wanted to do our room white as well, but DH is against the idea. Can anyone recommend a warm neutral for our bedroom? It's south facing so gets a lot of light, but I don't want magnolia/yellowy tones in the room. I've been looking at the Dulux website and Egyptian cotton looks nice, DH thinks it's too "white looking". I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance.

Try the Farrow and Ball paintchart - there are loads of different whites on there. One is bound to suit. Their modern emulsion is the best for a family home, I think (not their estate emulsion).

My husband is a carpenter and works alongside many painters and they also recommend Farrow and ball.

Most of the things he does are requested in F&B. Check out his website -

i love very pale green its gorgeous its really pale

we use trade paint also so if it does get marked you can scrub it as much as you like and it doesn't ruin

what colour would your ds like i would have thought white for a 12 yr old would be quite clinical could you choose a very pale blue

Go for White Tie or Slipper Satin on the walls and woodwork in Pointing eggshell. All by Farrow & Ball.

Agree with your H re white - It's a harsh colour.

After months and months and £££ on tester pots I finally found a lovely soft white called Paper by Laura Ashley - hard to describe but it isn't blinding white, it's much less glare-y - more of a chalk really. I'm now doing the whole downstairs in it.

Thanks evryine for your replies. My 12 you has no views at all on what colour he's like! His room is blue at the mo, so I thought it was time for a change.
