What do you have in your utility room?

We are just starting an extension. There will be a much bigger kitchen and a new utility room, I am stressing so much about what to have in the kitchen I have not considered the other room. It will have the washer and drier and a sink but then what... shelves / cupboards. want to deal with laundry and recycling etc as well as muddy boots. Do you put kitchen units in there or is there something else I should be looking at?

If you buy a very good quality washing machine, you never need to wash by hand and so you don't need a sink/draining board in your laundry room.

The sink/drainer is used for allsorts though, not just hand washing:

washing out paintbrushes, cleaning really messy things (eg.things from the garden, childrens toys)

fridge-freezer
washing machine
tumble dryer
double cupboard with sink and worktop extending along under boiler so a space underneath it - with kitchen bin and recycling box
boiler
hooks on wall with mop and broom
plastic drawers with kids craft things in
couple of small shelves with washing powder, conditioner etc

It is about 2 worktops wide (ie the worktop run and a similar space to walk through) and about 10ft deep.

Ours has sink, washing machine and dryer, extra fridge with small freezer, narrow upright shelf unit with lots of random crap on, open metal shelf unit from Ikea with extra pots and pans on, recycling boxes, bucket and mop.

We have a teeny tiny utility room which has the fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, two wall cupboards and a miniscule work surface. But it's got a pretty high ceiling and has deep shelves running round two sides about a metre from the ceiling which fit big plastic boxes on, so all our Christmas stuff/party glasses etc are up there. You can fit so much crap up there, I love it! It also has the hobbit door into the air-raid shelter...
