Removal companies - help!

I know there have been previous threads on this but can't seem to find them. Can anyone recommend any removal companies - looking to move from Harrow, NW London to Cambridge (hopefully .............. Any recommendations or horror stories to tell? Also we may need to move out of our house and put stuff into storage for a couple of weeks while we wait for new house - one company I spoke to this morning told me this would mean two removal costs . Does anyone have any experience of this?

Don't know about the storage stuff but we used Reliable Removals and they were great. Not too exspensive and did a fab job packing and moving us.

We moved out of Edgware 2 years ago and used
rogersremovals.co.uk... they are a large company in NW London (based in Finchley). We were pleased with them.

Just reread your message and this info may also be useful. We had to use storage as our new house wasnt ready to move into. They moved our stuff into storage for a month, then they moved it to the new house. The total cost including storage was about £1,500 which included the storage costs.

how much stuff do you have? we are contemplating hiring a garage to store our furniture if necessary, nb nothing we own is hugely valuable!

Give Trek Removals a call. They are London based but will go nationwide and Rhonda and Ian are both lovely. Ian in particular goes to great lengths to make sure you are reassured and the teams they have are all equally as nice. They will try very hard to compete on price both on the move and on storage costs so give a comparable from someone like Pickfords. They made my moves (have used them for two moves so far - from house A to temporary accommodation to house B) really pleasant and were able to solve matters that arose without a fuss eg mending glass above the front door that got broken when moving in. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

Six Keys based round London are fab.

claricebeansmum · 24/06/2009 20:18

Absolutely not Pickfords.

Actually, we've used Pickfords twice now, and they were superb. No complaints at all, and their packing was amazing

There will be 2 removal costs if you move via store. One cost to load and one to deliver, plus the storage costs. If you do go via storage, make sure that you use a company who bring the empty storage containers to the house and load them in situ. If not, everything is handled once to load onto lorry, again to load into containers at their storage facility, a third time to load back onto lorry to deliver and yet again to unload at the new house which is far from ideal. Compare quotes and check their insurance as cover varies widely.

Also, I agree with what claricebeansmum said.
