If you do indeed have carpets at all in

a) your bedroom
b) your DCs bedroom(s)
c) the hallway

How did you decide? was it based on the wall colour, or was the wall colour based on your carpet colour?

Also, do you think that all bedrooms off the hallway should match in colour? Or is matching out?

Do you think having a bright child like colour such as red in a child's bedroom is not the 'done' thing these days?

What colour carpets are more 'neutral' but not beige?

(jumente - an aside - we have to have all our doors replaced as fire doors, apart from the bathroom. The logic behind this, is the bathroom is the only room that is unlikely to have a fire, low risk enough that fire doors are not deemed necessary oh how i laughed when they told me that!)

(kettle sounds proper and also gives us loads of room on our side where the other kettle was, AND it heats enough water for the millions of cups of tea the builders are drinking ).

On the carpet front - DH has been persuaded about the all one colour throughout the place apart from our bedroom. I think I can compromise on this. I mean he does live here and all

if you want to sell possibly at any point in near future i'd go neutral - beige not brown. please dont go green (heartfelt plea from someone who bought entire house carpeted in sodding green that none of our stuff went with). for dcs' bedrooms what about neutral carpet and bright rugs? gives you the colour without it having to be permanent/wall to wall.
glad you have negotiated compromises!
