How on earth do I go about getting rid of my fireplace and getting an inset gas fire???

That's it really!
I hate our fireplace and have found a lovely inset one which will be flush to a wall.
Now, I need to find someone to take our exsiting firplace and gas fire off and fit the new one.
Just had someone round and he was basically telling me to stick with what we have (But it is truly minging and I hate it). He said on a new house we may need a builder as well to brick up some parts etc, he seemed pretty clueless tbh, v nice and all that, but didn't even know what an inset fire was.
So, who has done this and how easy was it?

I have done it. But I went to a shop called the fireplace shop and gave them a big cheque and they sorted every little thing out.

Have you spoken to the people sellingthe fire you like? They usually have a list of local companies who will do installation.

i think you will need a builder to do the work and a corgi registered gas engineer to do the gas bits.

bowever a reputable builder should be able to give you a quote.

but you should be able to ask this over the phone.

i would personally make sure that my very valuable home with my very valuable family in it - had a corgi registered gas engineer ( think its the law) to do the gas bits - rather than any cowboy on the cheap shit

( in defense of my lazy fireplace shop option - I had an original huge marble surround from when the house was built in 1840 and needed someone who could deal with it without causing me a problem)

Aaah, well the man who came today was a Corgi engineer (I knew I had to get a "proper" gas man), but hadn't a clue about the rest of it.
Think I may go into a Fireplace shop and see if they can do the whole lot.
Thing is, if it costs too much there goes my new furniture.......
But it has to go!
