Anyone had a new oil boiler fitted recently?

And if so how much did it cost to have it all done (ie the whole job including cost of boiler)?

Ours has gone phut and we need a new one installing - the quote is £3800 plus VAT (it has to be moved as well, not just a new one slotted in the same place). It's 2 or 3 days work they reckon.

Does that sound reasonable? Not many companies about to quote for us and we have no hot water so a bit desperate...

we just had one fitted through the warmfront scheme, if one of you earns less than £16000 and you have a child you get a grant of upto £3500 towards heating repairs and insulation, our grant got us a new boiler and a radiator and an asbestos check and disposal and an electricity check, but boiler went into same place so quote sounds about right. maybe you could get a grant?

Thank you - have checked warmfront but not eligible unfortunately. Think quote is probably about right too, but what a lot of money to find.

we were quoted about £3000 for a new worcsester bosch oil boiler (ours was leaking and the part obsolete) we were lucky that a second opinion showed we could have the part welded for £500 instead.
its so expensive isn't it?

mrsflowerpot · 22/05/2009 17:07

it is so bloody expensive. The old one has completely gone, it's leaking all over the place. We knew it was old and wouldn't last forever but we were hoping it would hang on for a couple of years - it was in a really stupid place and needs relocating so we knew when we did it it would be a big job.

We had a Trianco one fitted and it cost 2k, wouldn't recommend the brand though Stick with Worcester.

Hmm, we paid only £3K inc VAT to have an oil boiler fitted plus oil tank and hot water tank plus removing old solid fuel heater. It was 6 years ago, but I can't quite believe prices have gone up that much.

Have you had more than one quote? It's amazing how much they can vary for the same job.
