Can you have a satellite dish in a conservation area? No sky sports will be a dealbreaker for DH!

Found a good house which seem to be a good deal (although struggling to work it out since I think it was overpriced at the top of the market). Just wondering whether I might as well stop looking at kithens on the internet since if DH can't have non stop rugby and cricket the world might come to an end and it will be a deal breaker. Anyone know if you're allowed satellite dishes in a conservation area. The house is set back from the road but you can see it through the gates. The back is river fronting and so also visible.

Can you get cable? Virgin offers Skysports in one of its mega package thingies I think

Just googled and you would need consent, probably need to ring your local council to see how they would view an application.

It depends! We live in a conservation area, and could have a dish on one side of the house, but not the road-side, which was ok because it worked fine on the permitted side. You'd need to speak to the local council to check what the rules would be for that house/area.

We can and we live in a conservation area - althouigh pur house is listed so we have to have it on the barn at the bottom of the garden!

Although my friend who lives in Suffolk, we live in Essex, has to have cable as they are not allowed dishes on their houses up there.

Have a mooch around the area and see if you can see any.

ohdearwhatamess · 21/05/2009 13:42

We do, but we have to have the dish at the back of the house where it can't be seen from the front/road.

Everyone in my village has it as we can't get terrestrial or digital tv here.

Rebeccaj · 21/05/2009 14:24

Yes, we're in a conservation area and there are lots here, definitely possible! Hope the council give you the answer you want...!

LovingTheSunshine · 21/05/2009 21:20

have a look on your council's website - ours says you can't have them on the front of the house . hth

You should have planning. If it was me, and provided the dish would be discreet, I would just go ahead and do it. Also check what all the other properties in the immediate vicinity have.
