Do you think I should start packing ??

We were expecting to exchange today, but it won't happen until Monday/Tuesday the EA advised.

What would you do ? Would you start to pack up items that you don't use or wait until exchange. We have the garage to clear and was planning on moving to parents garage as we won't be using the things. Was going to do this weekend.

We then had planned to move the house items and furniture into rented next weekend so we would be clear from our house and could tidy up before the move in a fortnights time.

Or would everyone wait until the exchange before packing up items and moving some things out. Any ideas ??

I am due to have a baby in about 8 weeks time, so don't want too leave things until the last moment.

Ha, ha. We were meant to exchange and move while my daughter, newborn and I were staying with my parents in Italy for six weeks. All would be perfect - husband would handle it all and I would walk into new home with everything already there. Didn't happen - I got back to the old house which had been completely packed away and we ended up having to fight over who got the one towel and the one mug until we eventually moved four weeks later.

Even if you do exchange early next week, I would wait to start packing until then but you can do very constructive things such as clearing out now - being absolutely ruthless and chucking away as much as possible. Good luck.

Wait, we're in the same boat but expecting to exchange early next week

How long are you expecting between exchange and completion? If it is only a few days, then yes, start packing up the items you don't really use now. However if it is weeks you might want to wait a bit longer.

It looks like it will probably be a week before exchange and completion.

I'd pack a fair bit. last time we moved we left it (well, I did go into labour 10 days before completion!) but on day of move we were frantically packing still and the removal men were tappingtheir feet and tutting loudly.

I saw a lovely man from Pickfords yesterday for a quote and he said about getting 3 sets of stickers - red, yellow and green - you pack the stuff you barely use 3 weeks before move and put green on, 2 weeks use yellow on stuff you will need but not straight away and red for stuff that you need to unpack soonest.

We are about 6 weeks from completion and I'm sorting, donating to charity shops and enjoying a good clearout

I think we will clear out the garage tomorrow, we have stuff in there that we don't use and haven't touched for a year. Send the things in boxes up to my parents garage to store for us.

I did a good clear out in the house when we put the house on the market. So it won't take long to do the final packing in the house. Just not looking forward to the garage.

I would wait- we were due to exchange last month, so I (trying to be very organised), packed alot of our stuff, cancelled phone lines, diverted bank account statemtns, e.t.c., only for the bank to retreat on it's mortgage offer to the buyer so she had no choice but to back out- needless to say I was very upset and pissed off!
Wait until deal is signed and sealed! Good luck!
