Relocating to Bournemouth - any ideas?!

We are looking to relocate to Bournemouth due to work, but are struggling with property prices etc in the area, and have no idea what various areas are like?!

We are a young family, and have lived in central Bristol and rural Devon...and would somewhere in between!

Is there anywhere affordable near the sea, thats not retirementsville or rundown (or Sandbanks).

What distance is commutable? Should we be looking as far as Southhampton/the small towns to the north?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

you want psychomum.

I am in dorset - which is about 45 minutes from Bournemouth . Cheap property -although the word amongst mumsnetter is that I live in a shithole - I love it though. But I think it would be a hard commute.

I don't know your budget - generally the Bournemouth area is expensive. Mudeford area of Christchurch is near the sea with good schools, also Highcliffe.

Also, if you're working in Bournemouth you really don't want to be approaching town from the west i.e. Poole area - traffic is murder.

Hopefully psychomum or flame or one of the Bournemouth dwellers will be along soon to advise more fully.

It's a lovely area though - I'm sure you'll find something you're happy with .

Thanks Pearls! I will keep my fingers crossed she comes online. I have holidayed in Dorset (Lulworth) and it was beautiful.

Property is so expensive - its such a shame I'm not a millionaire and could afford a sea view

You could try Shaftesbury, Ringwood, Sturminster Newton - all sort of commutable (although you'd have to try the road in at the time of day that you'd be commuting to see what the traffics like).

ooo been googling Mudeford Epithet, and it looks lovely...need to start honing dp's salary negotiation skills!

Budget would be national averageish (I'm on maternity at the moment though).
