selling house privately - what websites are out there to help

if you have / considering selling your home privately which websites would you use to advertise. struggling to find any on google.

parents are relocating and just found a private sale house and suddenly realised that there was a whole market out there that they were missing.

the house they've seen has only just come off the local estate agents books, so no further advertising other than board in garden, hence asking here.

houseladder.com worked briliantly for me in 2007...and some interest in the last few months on our other one...well worth a try.

about 200 quid upfront for the ad and board.

the ad doesn't go on rightmove, but is on fish4 and other property sights...

worth a try for the sake of an hour or two writing the ad, uploading pics etc...i saved about 1850 quid estate agents' fees selling in 2007...and would save 3500 if i sold it through there this time.

and if you're anything like me, it's also actually quite enjoyable showing people round the house...my inner estate agent trying to get out, perhaps

We just sold our house with the help of an agent that charged a flat fee (£800) for doing the marketing, adding it to Rightmove , helping with negotiations etc. Their business model is based on keeping their costs very low i.e. no hight street agency, owners do viewings themselves etc. Might be worth looking to see if any of the local agents do similar (let me know if they're based in the SW, as this agent might be in their area!).

Definitely worth doing - it saved us a significant amount of money and is a real poke in the eye for the snobby local agents (the agents we used are trying to break into the market of our town - lol).
