What do I need to know about carpets? What types are the best/worst?

My friend told me to buy a carpet with the highest wool content I could afford. The synthetic type melt if your lamp falls over and shade falls off and nobody notices for 5 minutes or so because they aren't in the room.

thats true but wool carpets are hell to clean as your not supposed to get them wet

my only advice I can stand by because it is from biotter experience is

dont get a cream carpet when you have 2 children and one on the way because you think you will hoover twice a day, not let the kids eat anything in the front
room, "its stain resistant" and your going to clean in once a month anyway

because it is all bollocks and you will end up with a dirty grety carpet, patchy grey and cpvered in stains and spills that looks fucking awful

I'd rather get a cheap one I can replace every 2 years whilst the children are young.
