I am having my kitchen (from B&Q) done. The guys who are undertaking the work, can only be described as cowboys.

The whole thing has been a farce.

I could catalogue the failures and general shitness but won't bore you.

However, what has really pissed me off is that they have nicked our surplus solid wood worktop...about £500 pounds worth that we bought to make shelves/ storage with.

They simply put in on their van and took it with them.

I have tried contacting them since this happened and the boss says it was put on van in error but that they can't find it now.

The builders are meant to be coming here in the morning to repair some of their work.

WHAT DO I DO??? What do I say???

Thanks Flibberty- great advice, thanks to your Dp!

Stripey's right- B&Q will only accept payment up front once kitchen is ordered.

I have well and truely had my fingers burned.

I take on what your DP says about them being responsible for removing waste etc. However, in this instance the waste remains clogging up the front garden whilst the worktop was conviently taken care off.

Well get on to b&q about how they have been selective about what waste they removed!

I once had a new kitchen sink fitted. I lived on my own at the time and the farking cowboy took away all the lead and copper pipe to be weighed in and left me with a crappy old sink and damp sink unit to somehow get to the tip myself when I had no car.

You can see why I am so keen to cling on to dp let my lovely man know how appreciated he is!

Oh Flibberty, you hold on to him very tightly.

Dp and I are c-rap at anything remotely connected to DIY.

When I first met him my house was just about falling down!

I used to have all the women at work greeeen with envy at my new man - they'd ask how it was going and I'd say 'oh great thanks - he turns up on a friday with a selection of power tools'

Now that he lives here though he is usually too busy working for other people to want to do more on a weekend. I think he just did it at first to impress me (and it worked!).

SparkyFartDust · 13/04/2009 22:44

oh yes, nothing more impressive than a large array of power tools and a working knowledge of how to use them!

What happened?

OMG - that's awful Bloody B&Q they're notorious for dodgy/cheap labour. Mind you - not cheap for you - cheap for them

B&Q are a nightmare if you don't use their builders too.....they simply don't deliver all the goods - just leave the customer and the builder hanging on, like a punishment because they make more money on the builders than they do the kitchen sale.

I think Flibbertyjibbet and I must be sharing a DP My DP won't touch B&Q and he only takes small amounts of cash throughout the job, when the stages (as agreed) are complete - or on a small job when all the work is done and signed off by the client. NEVER pay in advance.

Also as Flibberty says - check the electrics have a 'Part P' registered certificate - without it you can get them in a lot of trouble. You MUST push for this, make sure you have it one - it's important.

Good luck - fingers crossed and moan a hell of a lot.

strange thing happened.

Worktop appeared outside our front door this morning.

workman arrived much later on- I had had to leave. was told they would arrive by 8 and leave by early lunch time...but still no sign by 11am when I had to leave.

Shoddy job left behind. Kitchen meant to be finsihed but chipped cupboards left unrepaired, worktop not sealed around edges or made water tight.etc. Place left in general disarray.

I rang B&Q HQ have complained and have pressed for the following:

  1. different workmen to come to finish and make good the job
  1. work to be checked by independant surveyor (paid for by B&Q).
  1. any work not approved by surveyor/ myself to be completed by B&Q at no cost to me.

They have agreed to this.

never again!

They agreed! Good on you! That counts as a result I think!

We bought our kitchen from B&Q but fitted independently. B&Q bent over backwards to be helpfull. We had no complaints and have a fab kitchen.
