I am toying with the idea of moving - possibly Blandford Forum/ Shaftesbury area but am flexible. I don't know anyone there other than my sister near Bournemouth and my mum in a village near Blandford Forum. I do not want (nor can I afford) to live where they do but would like to be closer than I am now.

Need decent schools, possibility of employment for me (teacher although any work would do) and somewhere pretty but not too cut off - I need to be able to meet people and make friends.

When are you doing that?

Listing here with name taken out.

After a devastating fire nine years ago in which half the school?s buildings were destroyed - at last the school has risen from the ashes. Its 13 million pound rebuild will be officially opened on May 20th where officials, parents, students and friends of the school will be invited to the celebratory opening event which climaxes in a firework display.

From 18.00 to 19.30. May 20th 2009

Wednesday 20 May 09

Apparantly the queen was supposed to be opening the buildings but we had to postpone.

Don't send your children to Sturminster High, its not great, Shillingstone is a nice village though. I have heard some great thing about Sexeys School and a few of my friends went there (many years ago).

twinsetandpearls · 12/04/2009 20:52

Do you know people who have their kids at Sturminster High. What is it that has put you off. They have a very good website. One of our student teachers did a practice at Sturminster and said the kids were well behaved but perhaps not as switched on as the kids we get.

I doubt we will get the house in Shillingstone.

Thanks ggirl. Will look into Ringwood too.

What about:

Gillingham (is cheap)
Sturminster Newton

We collected a bed from Gillingham and it is not a particularly nice place, and coming from somone who likes Blandford it would appear that means something.

SB, I ma not that fat from Shaftesbury.
I grew up in Bmth.
It is a lovely area and we always toy with the idea of moving back to Dorset.
A friend of a friend (with children0 moved from Bmth to Ringwood a coupke of years ago and really likes it.
Let me know if you need any help etc

I grew up in North Dorset, and went to Gillingham school (20 years ago!). Apparently, Stower Provost Primary and Gillingham Comp are the schools to go to (so my mum says).... both schools I went to. Gillingham is not the prettiest, especially compared to shaftesbury, but the villages around are lovely. West Stour, Stower Provost, Marnhull etc. My main gripe was lack of entertainment as a teenager! ts very pretty though.
