'Fantasy flat' - where in London would you buy?

Ok, so if money was little or no object and you were going to buy a 'pied a terre' type small flat in London to stay in on your many shopping/ cultural weekends , which area would you buy in?

on reflection, that sounds a bit stalkery. Ignore me, and rest easy in the knowledge that I'm now 200miles from London.

tattycoram · 25/03/2009 22:17

MrsMattie, I totally agree about the Barbican. Walking through there at night feels like the opening sequence of a Crimewatch reconstruction.

I'd go for Primrose Hill or Marylebone High St. I do quite like Pimlico too.

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 22:18

Forget about the pied a terre, if money was no object I'd move the whole family to london either nr Marylebone or Primrose Hill.
Call me provincial, but I still love Hampstead and Belsize Park

LadyThompson · 26/03/2009 10:58

I have a pied a terre in Maida Vale already. But would still rather have one in Bayswater/Lancaster Gate where I used to live, or in the heart of Soho, or Fitzrovia, or Mayfair.

Would avoid Primrose Hill like the very plague. I worked there for twelve years and think it's so overrated - full of skinny jean wearing idiots and yummies talking in loud voices about their servants. Furthermore, it is right on top of Camden (grotsville). I love London though. Wish I lived there all the time

MorrisZapp · 26/03/2009 15:13

Guess I'm not the only one with 'pied a terre' fantasies then!

Some lovely flats in all those areas, I've been peeking on Foxtons. Just need to save up the third of a million first...

LadyThomson, you totally put me off Primrose Hill !

Pollyanna · 26/03/2009 15:59

I lived in Hampstead and Belsize Park for years and would go back there like a shot if i could afford it.

We did rent a flat off Oxford St (near Selfridges) for a while - that was a good place to have a pied a terre. I would want to be near Hampstead Heath though I think.

Pollyanna · 26/03/2009 16:01

i've also lived in Primrose Hill and really liked it there too. but was young and rich[er] then and unencumbered by children. I didn't really come across any of the people mentioned by LadyT, but that's not to say they don't exist!

hifi · 26/03/2009 16:32

i lived in primrose hill when i was single, rode my bike thru regents park to work. had dinner at la gioconda, now carluccios. oh the joy.
also lived in maida vale with girlfriends which was fab.
if dh and i never had kids we would have lived in marlebone.

goldenpeach · 26/03/2009 17:09

Bloomsbury, near Russell Square, I lived there in the 1980s in a rental in a pedestrianised road and it was just lovely.

lovelypair · 26/03/2009 20:38

agree bloomsbury has a villagy feel and very central, or clerkenwell, farringdon, angel, st johns wood, marleybone...

NorkyButNice · 26/03/2009 20:40

TDWP - where's your fantasy Greenwich house?

Molesworth · 27/03/2009 11:17

I lived in Islington and it was a horrible dump - sorry, Angel fans

HeadFairy · 27/03/2009 11:30

Maze Hill is lovely dwp, though I'd be royally fed up pushing a pushchair up there every day!

noddyholder · 27/03/2009 11:30

Primrose Hill
Holland Park

NorkyButNice · 27/03/2009 11:33

Maze Hill is very nice. I love the houses on Hyde Vale...is it bad form to post a picture of the outside of someone's house on google street view on here do we think?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 27/03/2009 11:36

It's the big red brick castley type building at the very top of the hill. I'd have brilliant thighs if I lived there, teehee!

Gorionine · 27/03/2009 11:42

Maida Vale (W9), Loved it when I lived there!
