I have part stainless steel and part wood (oak) too - don't think it looks dated at all - or I hope not as it's less than two years old! The steel is next to the sink (also steel) so blends in with it. The wood has been surprisingly easy to keep - and I am definitely not in the domestic goddess category...

Oak. Not gonna lie - it's fairly high maintenance compared to other materials, but we desperately wanted it (have cream kitchen with terracotta floor tiles and a ceramic sink - nothing looked as good as oak). It needs to be oiled regularly and we have already lightly re-sanded it and it was only put in 7 months ago ...but I love it and wouldn't swap it for the world.
