carpet tiles- What are they like ?

I have visions that all the joins in the tiles may accummulate dirt, but then again any spillages and hard to remove stains could be easily removed by putting in a new tile. Anyone have experience of carpet tiles and like them?

If you fit them tightly together then they don't get dirt in the join particularly, but it can be a bit tricky to get them neat. Also, once they've been down for a while they sort of stretch so if you have to replace one it often isn't a neat job as the gap is no longer perfectly square.

We had them in the bathroom of a student flat and assumed we could just take them all up when there was a small flood and put them back in any order, but they didn't fit back together right afterwards

they are designed really with contract use in mind where people arent quite so concerned with the joins etc - people are more interested in being able to remove one tile and replace it when it gets damaged rather than some huge open plan office floor. That said, many of them have a similar look to residential carpet but be aware that if you remove a tile and put a new one down it will likely be a different shade!

Thank you both for your good points both appreciated, I think I will go with carpet from a roll.
