Just before Christmas when I was draining the bath the water bubbled up the toilet, I thought we had a blockage somewhere but with it being Christmas we didn't look to closely into it at the time. In the new Year it did it again, then when the lady in the flat upstairs let water out of her bath it also bubbled up our toilet and our bath.
So dh bought some rods and put them down the drain but couldn't reach anything to shift, whatever it was out of the way.

We mentioned it to the lady upstairs who phoned her HA and they sent out a plumber who also put rods down the drainpipe and said that he couldn't reach it either as whatever it was was over 50 feet away so he called out draincure who arrived in the afternoon, when we were out, and fixed the problem. We spoke to the lady upstairs who told us that the guy had cleared it and indeed it seemed to be fine.

Then last week it did it again. Now what we don't understand is that when we flush the toilet nothing comes back up, when the lady upstairs flushes the toilet nothing comes back up, it's only when water is let out of the bath. We haven't flushed anything down the toilet that shouldn't be going down it, neither has upstairs. Whatever it is seems to be quite far away rather than close to our flats.

We have tried putting soda crystals down the drains to clear whatever is blocking it but it doesn't make a difference, we've also tried domestos drain unblocker etc and none of them make a difference.

Has anyone else had this problem? or can you suggest anything else that we could do that could move this blockage, where ever it is? If it is so far away that the plumber couldn't reach it with the rods should it then be the water board that is informed? Would the water board charge us if we called them?

Sorry this is so long but I'm not sure what to do next or who to contact. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks southeastastra, I spoke to the lady upstairs tonight and she's going to phone the HA for a plumber in the morning.

The plumber has been called so we'll see what he says. Which insurance did your dad claim from Southeastastra? Was it buildings insurance? or some sort of special insurance?
