Is putting a water meter in your house a good idea

My Mum has just let her house out and tenants have asked if they can pay for a water meter to be fitted to save them money. Will it reduce the value of her home by having one? If my Mum was to sell her house at a later date.

i dont think it would reduce the house value but i think once they are in for longer than 12 months they are permanant (there is a 12 month get out clause if it works out dearer).
they base water rates on bedrooms so a 3 bed house is presumed to have 4 tenants so if only 1 person lives there a meter is cheaper unless you have a hosepipe on all the time etc.
