Planning permission (new fence), will the council check we have complied?

We had to apply for planning permission to put up tall trellis panels on our boundary (we are in a conservation area).
I now want to change the style of the trellis to give us more privacy, using slatted trellis rather than square lattice(we've had some large trees removed since we applied and are much more overlooked than we realised at first).
I stupidly emailed the planning officer and said this, presuming it would be no problem as the difference was minimal and she said we'd have to submit new drawings which would delay things, which we can't do.

Just wondering if the council are likely to come and check the work?

They might. Is it visible from any public vantage point? If so, then the CO might notice anyway. If you get any complaints, the enforcement officer will visit and you will have to submit amended drawings.

You can just about see it from another road if you come down a driveway owned by the flats backing onto us, but not sure the CO knows that (I said in the application that you could only see fence from our property).

All seems a bit mad as the only difference is that we want to use wooden horizontal slats rather then squares, so would look very similar, just no wooden uprights...

It's probably fine, but the CO has to ask for amended plans/drawings in order to ensure that what you are currently proposing is acceptable and that the council has records of what has been granted IYSWIM.

Seems bit bananas to me as we're only putting it up to screen a hideous 1970s 3 storey block of flats (in a conservation area) and they are fussing over the finer details of our trellis....
