New wooden floorboards - any recommendations for supply/fit in London?

We have been looking at wood floors for ages
Most people seem to suggest laying a new floor on top of our existing floorboards
This will raise the floor by about 2cm

Has anyone had the old floorboards removed and new ones instead?

We haven't but I asked the same question to my husband - a builder - the other day. If on the ground floor no problem to lift floorboards but if upstairs it may ruin ceilings below which then turns into a big job.

I think that's right he often exaggerates jobs to put me off having them done.
