What sort of paint should I use to makeover a tired looking wardrobe?

I've been thinking about dc's rooms and the amount of utter rubbish they contain, trying to work out storage options once they've been decluttered, but have had a brainwave and want to re-use dd's wardrobe for ds' room

The wardrobes were left here when we moved in, apart from being extremely old fashioned and not at all our taste, they are actually ok and will last a few more years. So i thought i'd try and tart them up a bit.

They are currently white doors and dark brown wood effect type build, pressumably MDF construction no idea tbh as i'm no expert! don't they sound a treat but really they will be fine for a few years!

So what do I use to paint them with that won't start flaking and looking tatty within 5 minutes?

any ideas anyone?

I may use stickers or something on them once they're re-painted, not sure?

Are they veneered/painted/melamine?

If painted you need to sand lightly, prime & paint - gloss will last best - but eggshell might look better

If veneered or melamine you need a specialist primer

You can get mdf primer which you paint on and then you can use eggshell (which I would use) or gloss over the top.
Then you coudl change the handles - perhaps simple chrome style - which can make a huge difference.

And yes why not add some nice decoration to finsih them off. SOme good styles here:

thanks, not sure what it's made of they're not painted, think it's melamine

I well definately be changing the handles. When e moved it all I did was spray paint th handles, but this time i'll change them. There's 3 double wardrobes so was being lazy last time, but this time I have more time to do it and 2 of the 3 will go to the tip so i'll only be making over one double doored wardrobe!

I'm loving the underwater theme on your link, wouldn't want to go too ott though but a few stickers might be in order
