Can you still get those 'offset mortgages' where ALL your income goes into the mortgage and you withdraw living costs from it once a month, interest being calculated daily?

We want to borrow about 50K. We have a deposit of 300K.

Any recommendations? Yes we KNOW we have to go to a broker but I was wondering if anyone in MN-land had recent experience re pitfalls, value etc.

Blimey! Great deposit. You don't necessarily need a broker. First Direct is probably your best bet, and some of their deals aren't available through brokers, so try their website first. They do have an offset mortage available if you don't want to borrow too much so you might be lucky. You'll get a reasonable (but not rock bottom) interest rate, unlike us whose numbers are the other ways round and have ended up on a 5.79 interest rate.

we have an offset mortgage with first direct, they are often top of the best buy tables

Thanks. I will try them. The 'deposit' is the proceeds of the sale of a house abroad! I'm looking with great fear into the maw of House Buying In England as I've heard so many horror stories!
