London & Country mortgage broker - any good?

Has anyone any experience of the telephone mortgage brokers London & Country?

We need to sort out a mortgage and in the absence of a local recommended one, thought they might be a good option.

Any comments gratefully received.

Yes, we've used them and would recommend them. Found them through Martin Lewis (moneysavingexpert), you don't pay any commission, the mortgage company that gets your business does.

The mortgage we last had though them was an Abbey flexi discounted tracker, not sure if it's still available but we were happy with it.

Cheers for that. Will give them a call.

Same here, saw them on Martin's website, went with them, they were brilliant.

Rang at times convenient to me (when my toddler was in bed) they do whole of the market.

It is just so easy to do it all over the phone. The only bit we had to do in person for the money laundering reasons was go into the branch of C&G to show them our passports and utility bills, they then copied them and sent them off to C&G mortgage department.

They were OK - pretty good in finding us deals we hadn't heard of or considered. However, when we re-mortgaged last January mortgage providers had started pulling some of their deals with brokers and actually had better ones if we went through them direct. L&C told us that our original preferred deal was no longer available at all, when actually you could still get it direct from the mortgage provider. Had we listened to L&C and not checked for ourselves it would have cost us thousands of pounds

So my advice would be to do let L&C do most of the donkey work but then just double check for yourselves that there isn't anything better on offer.

Similar to DMS; I used them in Nov, they found us a good deal and were very easy and good to deal with. Didn't go with them in the end because I also checked with some of the direct lenders, and got a better deal with First Direct (not available through brokers). So certainly use them, but try a few others yourself too. The Martin Lewis website says which lenders don't use the brokers.

I used them several times before credit crunch took grip and found them really good - current crisis might have made them lose edge a little.

We used them and were very good. CAn recommend Katie Pisanu there.
