Are you buying/selling in Oxford?

Sorry to start yet another property thread but after looking in Warks and in nearby counties for months with no result, my DP has decided to add Oxford to our list of places to watch.

We had a look last spring/summer when prices seemed to have gone down, but a few months on they have shot up again (and it doesn't make sense to me, especially since many areas in London and other cities have crashed badly).

We are looking for a 4 bed and the prices are astonishing considering some houses are pokey, lack any character and need refurbishment.

Any idea why? Have asking prices been inflated to counteract low offers? We have been consulting www.houseprices.co.uk and nothing much has been selling at high prices.

Hi. We are also looking in Oxford, we're renting a few miles out and looking to move into Oxford to be nearer to work. There doesnt seem to be much on/coming on to the market, and we've been looking for nearly a year. Asking prices dont seem to have gone down much in that time.

My DP thinks that asking prices have gone up, but anything that sold went for less than similar properties did last year. An awful lot of landlords selling up as well so the quality seems a lot lower than last year.

Anybody here selling in Oxford? We are chain free, with cash in the bank as we sold our house already. We don't mind doing some DIY. If you are interested, email [email protected]. We are after a four bed house with garden.
