What furniture would you put either side of a sofa that was in the middle of a wall?

Would you put matching tables, drawers or cupboards?

I like the idea of symmetry, its against a patterned wallpaper and my sofa is denim blue.

ATM I have 2 small chests of drawers from dd's old bedroom, which are blue so they dogo, but are not my ideal.

Then it occurred to me...do drawers even belong in a living room?

I have a small chest (sort of bedside sized) in my living room with a lamp, a photoframe and one of the cordless phones on it. The drawers are v useful for magazines.

I would probably put matching side tables maybe with a side lamp on each. Depends on the size of the room though I guess.

I think drawers belong - good for hiding all the crap I accumulate in the living room anyway!

I also have 2 matching lamp tables, plain oak with metal handles, no fancy twisty bits, and a large brown leather cube storage box similar to this only real leather and a bit taller with a lamp on it

what do we think of 2 of these?

No drawers don't belong in a living room, imo

I'd put table one side, lamp the other. Lamp could be on a different table (maybe inc telephone) or a standard lamp (inc comtemporary versions).

Symmetry doesn't do it for me, but it's your living room ,do ehat you think look nicest. Buy what you like then move it around until you like the arrangement.

I take it the sofa is in the middle between the right and the left wall, and not in the middle between the floor and the ceiling.

cos that would be weird.

mrsmaidamess · 07/02/2009 22:26

No, you are right Quint, its hovering in mid air. That's why I'm finding it so hard to find furniture that fits.

stepladder would be in place!

MaplePecanPlait · 07/02/2009 22:29

ooh yes, symmetry does it for me.

I would put a small chest of drawers on each side with matching tall and elegant table lamps. Other option would be some oversized china bases with nice broad shades in a neutral or dark plain shade. I WOULD go for drawers too, to tidy odds and ends (I can't be the only one with a junk drawer in every room).
