We will be looking to rent a 3 bed. Preferably a cheap but nice area not in a town center. I've never even been up that way so have no idea of any areas.

If anyone knows around that way some help would be much appreciated.

I live in northampton. my advice is to stay away from the 'eastern district' ! Apologies to anyone who lives there!! The hunsbury area is good, parts of abington are too. Weston Favell is good - may be a bit pricy though. Abington vale is worth a look at too. hope this helps.

i live in northampton and have done for about 20 yrs, we live in hunsbury, it has good facilities for example schools, shops, leisure centres, golf course, its just like a mini town.

also wootton fields and grange park are fairly new areas which have good schools, nursery, shops etc, but no leisure centre.

i would reccomend any of these areas, we are currently thinking of moving but staying in one of the three areas i mentioned above.

BIL lived in various parts of N'hampton starting near Pitsford, then Hunsbury then Wootton Fields (all new developments) - WF seems to be the best for them and still being developed so you may pick up a bargain! Near to motorway to commute and drive to town seems short - good schools too (he's a teacher so knows whats going on). I'm sure there are plenty of rentals going in too as so much got built there in the last few years.

We used to live in a tiny place just outside Towcester which was about 20 mins south west of N'Hampton, iirc. Towcester's a great town, nice old market feel, pretty high st. Good access to both M1 and M40.

Do you have dcs who go to school?

Sorry I haven't got back to you yet.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I like the idea of Towcester, I will have to look on rightmove and see what the prices are like. It sounds like the area that I grew up in and live in now (small town in north essex)

We are still not sure what we do, it's a 2 hour commute from here so that is out of the question but we may move half way rather than all the way to Northampton. He hasn't 100% been offered the job yet it's just been bought up as a possibility in the next 6 months, I just like to think ahead and be prepared for all eventualities.

DS is 2.4 and DD is 4months so I don't hugely have to worry about schools at the moment.

Towcester has a leisure centre and a racecourse too. You can take a look at the Council website here - www.towcester-tc.gov.uk/
