Questions for those who have had new windows fitted..

After resisting for 5 years, we have decided to replace our rotten old windows and have the usual uPVC double glazing.. Having 5 windows and a front door.
I hate having any sort of DIY done, as mess, noise etc stresses me right out. DH will be in work so will be here on my own with DD. It's being done by a local (reputable) firm.

I know this sounds really daft, but how long do these things usually take? how much mess can i expect, and would it be less stressful if I send DD (will be 14 weeks) to my Mams for the day?

We've had new patio doors, kitchen door and kitchen windows replaced recently, which took 2 days.Tbh there wasn't much mess, but ALOT of noise.
We're having the rest of the house and porch done half term week and have been told it will probably take about a week and a half which I'm not looking forward to,especially as it will mean ds2 won't be able to have his nap.
I think that if you have the option of sending your dd elsewhere for the day,I personally would, just so she can get some sleep.

A day. They generally clean up their own mess and will use dust sheets.

Are you having full rip outs or inserts? Rips outs will cause more mess and mean that you will need to redecorate but will last longer. Inserts are shite imho. As the exposed wood rots more it will shrink and then your windows won;t fit properly and it'll start to smell.

Having the full rip-out. The windows were put in by the council in '89 - uPVC single glazed, and now the surrounds have rotted to nothing, they shake in the wind (we live halfway up a mountain in the welsh valleys) and leak really bad.

Will send DD down to Mams i think.. I just hope it's over pretty soon.
