Why does our smoke alarm chirp...

even though we have just changed the battery. It comes and goes . It is a Kidde one and fairly new.

It is sentient? Dunno - ours has just started and I put it up only yesterday. Would be interested to hear more sensible answers than mine.

Try a different battery - sometimes new ones have lost some of their charge before you even use them. If that doesn't work, I have no other ideas!

Is it near the bathroom? Ours chirps after we've had a bath or shower... have asked DH to move it further down the corridor to see if that helps, but he hasn't got around to it yet...

Ours in the downstairs hall chirps when it gets a sudden shaft of sunlight (or possibly when the light was there, then goes?) - I think the sudden change in light makes it think there might be smoke wafting past.

Ours do this when batterry life is low - go put in a new one now!

Changed battery for another out of same packet and no chirping !!!
