same here, i will watch with interest.
i have looked into the american ffridge/freezers and am not impressed by the capacity, lots of room taken up by the water/ice dispenser. i am now going for a full size fridge and freezer but separate and integrated.

for the dish washer im looking at ones with a half load function.

ive moved my washer and dryer to a loo for extra cupboard space. my dryer is a condenser one, you just empty a draw.

If you go for integrated make sure you can tell when they are on/finished without having to open the door/stop them mid-cycle.

my washer has a very anoying beep.

I've got a Bosch dishwasher which I find very good - not sure if it has a half-load function but it sort of makes it's own mind up about rinsing depending how mucky the water is, so it adapts to how much and how dirty your load is. I'd say the important thing is to get a reliable one, since you'll probably be running it every day, and also check how adaptable the racks etc are - mine has various folding and/or removable bits so you can get a good range of dishes in.

Oh yes DEF don't get one that beeps when it's finished, argh!

PIL have a dishwasher that has a little light that shines out of the bottom when it's finished. wish we had that.

Another thing - we moved into a house after people with v expensive tastes. Expensive machines are great, prob last longer, do the job better, etc. but....they cost lots to repair!

e.g. Miele dishwashers = lovely & pricey.

We have an American style thing, i think it's fab. love having the ice-maker & yes we do use it.
Still a big fridge & freezer.
Though DH went mad and bought a chest freezer too

So:

  • go for quiet things if you can
  • remember to check the energy efficiency rating
  • think through integrated before you go for it, some practical issues (our washing machine powder drawer was unusable)
  • don't necessarily get the most expensive makes as costly to repair.

hth

Yes, the icemaker thingy does take up space I have noticed but can't you get one without it? I was a bit disappointed with the ratio between fridge and freezer but it still seems the best option for getting more freezer space in the kitchen.

Hifi when you say full size and integrated how big are you talking?

Good point about the beeping and light - see, would never have thought about that in a million years!

I might have to have a slimline dishwasher but am not convinced it would be big enough? Any experiences?

about 230 litres each i think so like a fridge freezer but full size for each.

May I suggest that you sign up for a 30 day trial of WHICH on line and check out their recommendations for products too?

Bosch diswasher sounds like scottish's.

Samsung side by side friddge/freezer with water and ice dispenser, fab.

Tumble dryer, still in box in garage can't remember what make and have no idea how good it is.
