Maidenhead - where to rent

We are moving to Maidenhead soon (with my husband and my 12 months old baby) and looking for a house to rent at the moment. What areas are good to live with a child and which ones to avoid? Also can you please recommend a good creche in the area - so we will be looking for a house close to it. And actually any practical information on Maidenhead would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry for not answering before but have only just seen this post so hope its not too late. Cant really advise on creches as have never used one, but I know a lot of people who have used the creche at the local leisure centre called the Magnet. Areas I would consider renting in are Courthouse/St Marks area, Pinkneys Green, Altwood, Furze Platt, College area. I don't know what your budget is but you probably know that Maidenhead isn't the cheapest place! Also because its quite a small town, you can be living in a "nice" area but be right next door to a not so nice one. Personally I woudn't want to live in Cox Green or Woodlands Park (but as I say this is purely personal, probably because I don't know these areas so well and I would prefer to live on the north side of the A4). As far as nursery schools go, there are loads but the ones I've had good experiences with are Birdwood, Beehive and Agnes Heywood. There used to be a booklet called CHIME (Childhood In Maidenhead or something like that) with all the kind of information you are looking for - try ringing Maidenhead library and asking them to send you a copy. There are lots of nice parks (Oaken Grove, Punt Hill, Ockwells) around and plenty of clubs/activities for children. I do have to say that Maidenhead town centre is not especially good for shopping - Mothercare and Woolworths have just gone, no department store etc, but its easy enough to get to Slough, Windsor or Reading on the train, and of course London (about 35 minutes on train to Paddington).
