What do you especially like about your house/flat, and what do you wish was different?

I especially like
the central yet tucked away location,
the functional floorplan,
the decor and cozy furniture,
the size and 'feel' of the garden,
the lovely heated floor in my bathroom
having a guest bedroom/bath so friends can stay
spacious kitchen pantry
separate laundry room
garage

Things I wish were different:
wish there were more windows/more natural light, as the rooms can be quite dark on a cloudy day.
Wish the dining room was a bit larger, and had a window
Wish there was space for a big table in the kitchen

Things i like:

Lovely big garden with shed for bikes
Really big master bedroom for my 2dds
Dining room - that we will never have once we buy a place
Lovely area
Great primary school at the back of the house that i could potentially throw the children to when they go

Things i don't like

It is not our house
It is damp
It is cold
The bathroom has carpet

btw - i love the idea of a piano and sofa in the kitchen

Like

Location (private road, no through road with a communal green in the centre)
Facilities (good doctors, dentist, greengrocer, butcher, baker, post office etc all within walking distance and other stuff a short drive away)
Friendly and great local schools.
Easily commutable to London, equidistant to ILs/my family.
Huge house (4 beds, 3.5 baths, massive playroom, study, utility room)

Dislike, Small garden, but we have the green and playing field/playground 2 mins walk away.

Like:

layout
main rooms' proportions
having separate shower room
location
wooden floors
huge sash windows
entryphone (don't have to be rude to cold callers' faces)
lots of light
not overlooked

Don't like

small kitchen
wish we had proper garden rather than roof terrace
not having anywhere on ground floor I can leave pushchair

Oh dear I'm a bit anti our house at the mo, want to move but here goes;

Like
Style and feel (victorian cottage terrace)
Airy light escapist loft conversion
leaded and stained glass windows
dds lovely room (best in the house!)
decor and furnishings (all chosen and done by me on mat leave heavily preg!)
decked courtyard outback with mediterranean theme, has made nasty yard into a lovely space exp in summer

Dislike
Size of all rooms, too small
Size generally 2 beds doesn't meet our needs anymore
Everything about kitchen, layout, size etc.
No storage
No off road parking
lack of garage
useless filled in chimney breasts in reception rooms, can't understand why previous owner didn't have them taken out
just hate the way it's so small and cluttered
lack of light downstairs

What's good? It's big, it's light, it had an extension already done when we moved in. Lovely playhouse in garden, also already there. Lots of self-maintaining shrubs in garden. Sizeable attic room to use as my study. Cellar storage. Decent area.

What's not? Some of the decor is getting a bit tatty now and requires attention. It's miles from any of our friends. The garden is stepped and so children can't run up and down the length of it. Boiler is old. Roof needs attention. Oh, and we can't really afford it.

Things I like:

General location, close to town centre, parks, shop on corner.
Overall size & number of rooms suits our needs.
Has character without being twee/impractical.

Things I would change if I could:

Turn it into a detached house with a bigger garden & off-street parking.
Relocate it to a quieter road.
Make one of the living rooms bigger for parties, etc. We have two living rooms but they are both a bit small.
An extra bedroom for when family come to visit.
Some way of making it more mouse-proof

I love nearly everything about my house, as we have ploughed virtually every penny we've ever had into it making it better for us.

But I wish it was

a)detached

and b) on a plot of land with a big garden

(with its own hunky gardener aged 20 who takes his shirt off in the summer).

I love

  • Georgian period, paint etc in keeping with this
  • Simple layout with good size rooms
  • The garden has a conservation area behind it so absolutely no buildings overlooking from that side (quite good for London)
  • Favourite street I have lived on so far, tree-lined and full of Georgian houses
  • Great hall

Dislike

  • would like another room
  • bigger, new kitchen,
  • new wood flooring

Overall it suits us and I love living here.
