Help, how to unblock a small blockage in toilet?

Ok, having a small panic now as when I drained dd's bath some water bubbled back up the toilet and took ages to disperse.

I'm assuming that there is some sort of small blockage in the pipe from the toilet but it all seems to be ok now. However I'd like to try and do something to unblock anything that might be there if I can without calling out a plumber on Christmas eve.

So, does anyone know anything I could try?

I have in my head something about boiling water and bicabonate of soda? but not sure, can anyone advise? please?

A kettle of boiling water can shift stuff.
It's also something you can easily access!

I think what you need is caustic soda. Personally, I would just chuck a couple more buckets of water down there and hope the force of that shifts anything.

A bucketful of water emptied from a decent height (make sure you aim it well ) should shift anything.

Good luck.

If you have a sink plunger, shove it down and have a good poke about, normally does the trick!

You don't need a plumber....just a toilet bowl plunger... for about a a tenner...however at this time of night on Christmas eve the suggestions above are your only hope.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It actually seems to be ok now I poured some bleach down the bath plug hole and left it for a while then rinsed it away and it cleared ok. Then flushed the toilet and it seems fine.

I will keep in mind bucketfuls of hot water though and first thing on boxing day I'm going out to buy a plunger and drain cleaner!
