Hi. I am thinking about relocating to the Woking area and wonder if anyone can help me get a feel for where is nice to live, and where to avoid etc. Happy to look at villages around Woking too, like Ripley, Send etc.

I'd ideally like to be walking distance to a local shop to buy milk, nappies etc!

Thanks.

We leave in Mayford - which is, confusingly, right by Worplesdon station. Its a lovely rural place to live, my DH cycles to the station to go up to Waterloo and I was / will be driving into Woking for work. It takes about 10 min into Woking off peak, 15 min peak - it queues up in the morning but you can go round the back roads.
BUT as we are now finding with the birth of DD, state schools aren't great round here, and you run the risk of being in "no mans land" for catchment areas (or APAs as they call them now) - which means you get sent to the schools with room. Although I do mean "not great" by Surrey standards - the schools are still better than national average.
And the trains are not as regular as Woking although it doesn't take much longer once you're on.

Have you looked at Horsell? Great state schools, walk / bike / short drive to Woking station, village atmosphere with pub, village hall, church, local shops, takeaways etc. Good access to J11 M25. They have a playgroup and Monkey Music in the village hall.

Also you have to jump in the car to go anywhere really from Mayford...
