are there rules about doing building work on the weekend?

As I type this (Sat am) there is a terrible racket coming from next door where they have been doing demolition work all week. This has been preventing my 1 yr old from napping, with the resulting carnage you can imagine! I had been looking forward to peace and quiet on the weekend, but they seem to be carrying on. Are there rules about when building works can be done on a residential property? Help!!!

Check the planning permission - there may have been restrictions placed within that. Many councils have an online system.

It varies between councils, but I believe most have to stop at 12 or 1. You could try giving the council a call to find out or even just go round. Whilst there you could ask them how much longer the noisy stuff is going to go on for.

they normally do Saturdays but not before 7 and finish at lunchtime. They don't do Sundays.

It is annoying but has to be done I guess - we have been living net door to a building site for about 2 years now so I shall very very glad when they finish (next week apparently )
