Villages in Merseyside ??

We've just moved back to the UK from abroad and are staying with my parents near Liverpool. We would love to live in a village environment but stay in the the Merseyside area. My mum is in Kirkby and my sister is in Frodsham (I know thats Cheshire not Merseyside). I'd like to stay within half hours driving distance from either of them and would also like to stay on this side of the Mersey as I also have lots of family in North Manchester so don't want to be hours away from them. Also need good train or bus links to Liverpool city centre where DH works.
Any ideas ???

you have all the villages over northwich way as well as around frodsham. My mum live in acton bridge which is lovely but I know they had to rent in the area for a year as houses in those villages tend to be sold really quickly to locals.

meant to add issues you will face are the trains. My sister commutes into liverpool every day but has been late loads due to cancelled trains and there is no bus route. My mum commutes to manchester but has a car as a back up if needs be.

Michymama - I live in Maghull which is ten minutes away from Kirkby and (on a good day), you could probably get to Frodsham in about half an hour, 45 minutes. We have a direct train into Liverpool city centre every fifteen minutes.

Not sure if I would class Maghull as a village though!

bigTillyMint · 21/11/2008 10:56

Maghull has a special place in my heart, but is deffo NOT a village

Pinkjenny · 21/11/2008 11:01

Ha ha, never done me any harm!

Thanks for your answers. Getting to work from by train is important and also DH works shifts. Hopefully we will have a car but would prefer to keep with public transport.
Pinkjenny - I like Maghull, on my list of places if can't find village. I also like Ormskirk but then I'm moving further away from my sister.
On the route my mum takes to asda in Aintree there's a few nice villages. Will maybe have to look round there.
Thanks again !!

Rainhill is nice and quite a bit nearer to Frodsham than Ormskirk and Maghull. Good train/road links (just off M62).House prices are ridiculous, though, probably due to all of the above! Would quite like to live there myself.

Rainford, also nice - just off A580. Think you have to change trains at Sandhills to get to Liverpool, though.
