Little Poll: What layout do you prefer?

Do you prefer an open plan kitchen/living/dining area, or a separate room where you can close the door and maybe have a dining table in the kitchen?

Thanks!

We've got separate kitchen/dining/living/study/playroom downstairs. I like it being separate so that I can get away from people. All people. I have a lock on the study door and very tempting it is to use it (to lock other people out rather than anything else).

We have a small sitting room with a fire and TV (which the builder intended as the dining room, then an open plan ktchen/diner/family room, then the intended living room as a dining room but with chairs and bookshelves so adults can sit in it if they want to be away from the TV.

depends who is living with you. if small downstairs and no dc's or even tiny dcs then open plan. however, once dcs get even a little bit older (which believe me they do) then kitcehn you can eat in + separate sitting room. and when you have teenagers have communal kitchen surrounded by comfy bedsits!

My favourite is open plan with sliding doors so that you have the best of both worlds.

We have two 'reception' rooms and a separate kitchen. Wouldn't knock them into an open plan for all the world. I like the rooms having different 'vibes', different purposes.

The concensus appears to be: kitchen+dining room together, and a separate living room.
