Took my marble floor up in the kitchen - think I have made a HUGE mistake

ok, we have knocked our kitchen into dining room to make a massive room.

The kitchen had a very light beige marble, the kitchen units are walnut.

Had a lovely idea in my head of a gorgeous dark wood laminate floor all the way through.

Problem is, that the flooring looks gorgeous next to the french doors and patio doors. But, the floor area in between the two side of the kitchen it dosent look so good.

Should i:

a. put lights in the kickboards to disperse light onto the dark / mid colour floor

b. choose a really light floor to contrast

c. eat humble pie with dh and get some more marble and lay marble the whole length of room

re-do the whole room with solid oak / wood of your choice?

Marble is cold- we have travertine in our shower room, BUT we have underfloor heating as well. I would imagine it's a bugger to keep clean in a kitchen as well.

oh, tissy at last someone on my side. The marble was cold and we did have underfloor heating. But to do the whole area now would cost a fortune to heat and I think a bit of a waste of money in the current economic climate.

I just didnt like the hardness to it.

The only thing with solid oak is the dents that would be caused with me dropping things in the kitchen as I quite often two and the three children.

Do I have to go really light with the walnut cupboards or could i go for a colour match or darker with the lights in the kickboards.

oak is supposed to have dents! It gets better with age.

I'm by no means an interior design expert, but if the units are darkish, I would go lighter
